S.P.I.R.I.T Program

Incorporating new ideas into an established and comfortable routine often encourages one to embrace different ideas with acceptance and an understanding of these differences.  It is with this belief in mind that Keenooshayo School has implemented a school-wide Character Education Program we have named the SPIRIT Program.  Our goal is to focus the efforts of students and staff alike to become the best we can be as individuals, as a school community and as members of the wider global community.  More precisely, we are building SPIRIT.

Using the acronym S.P.I.R.I.T. staff at Keenooshayo will assist our students in learning about specific positive behaviour and in developing qualities of character.

Each letter in S.P.I.R.I.T relates to one of the following characteristics:

S - Sharing

P - Problem Solving

I -  Including Others

R - Responsibility

I -  Independence

T - Teamwork

All students and staff at Keenooshayo are assigned to a specific "house" or team that is composed of students from kindergarten to grade six.  As students move through the grades they will remain with the same "house".  During some period of each month all of the houses meet together to learn about the characteristics of SPIRIT and the strategies that support these.  In this manner, the entire student body and all of the staff learn a common language and expectations.
